State Premier Mike Rann acknowledged the latest graduates from Adelaide TAFE's Premier's Carnegie Technology Scholarships program in a gala dinner on Friday night.

The program, a joint venture with Carnegie Mellon University in the US, uses online learning to provide Australian students with a globally accredited software programming qualification. Sponsors of the program include EDS and Empower International.

Graduates from the program are already finding jobs in the IT industry. HR software specialist Empower recruited graduate John Saunders as a trainee programmer earlier this year while e-freight pioneer Moveit employed another graduate, Christian Bertram, as a software developer.

Empower director Brian Towler said the graduate quality was very high. "We had only one position, but all five people that we interviewed could have filled the role," he said.
